Hot Wax & Scrape

Fast bases. Smooth glide. Simple performance upgrade.

If your skis or snowboard feel slow, dry, or sticky on flats, a professional hot wax and scrape is the fastest way to restore glide. This service is a quick performance refresh designed to keep your gear moving efficiently in Alberta’s cold, abrasive snow conditions.

Sometimes, all your setup needs is proper wax applied the right way.

A Simple Speed Boost for Your Base

Our Hot Wax & Scrape service is a professional hot wax application for skis or snowboards, using an iron and base texturing brushes.

Priced at $25.00, this service focuses purely on glide performance. The wax is ironed into the base to allow proper absorption, then carefully scraped and brushed to restore structure and smoothness.

Unlike quick rub-on wax jobs, the hot wax scrape method ensures deeper penetration and longer-lasting performance.

If you are searching for a reliable hot wax scrape snowboard service, this is the clean, professional solution.

Who This Service Is For

This service is ideal for:

  • Riders whose bases look dry or chalky

  • Snowboarders noticing slower glide on flats

  • Skiers preparing for a weekend trip

  • Riders maintaining performance between major tunes

  • Anyone wanting a cost-effective speed boost

If your edges still feel sharp and your base is structurally sound, but you are losing speed or glide, a hot wax scrape is the right move.

It is also perfect mid-season when you want to maintain speed without committing to a full tune.

From Drop-Off to Smoother Glide

Step 1 – Drop Off Your Gear

Bring your skis or snowboard to Mountain Cultures during business hours.

If you prefer to pre-pay online, select “In Store Pick Up” at checkout and drop your gear off at your convenience.

Step 2 – Iron-Applied Hot Wax

We apply wax using a professional waxing iron. This allows the wax to melt and penetrate the base material properly rather than sitting on the surface.

The heat opens the pores of the base so the wax absorbs evenly. This is the key difference between a proper hot wax scrape method and quick surface applications.

Step 3 – Scrape & Brush Finish

Once the wax cools, we carefully scrape excess wax and finish with base texturing brushes.

Brushing restores structure, removes excess material, and ensures the base is smooth and ready to glide. The final result is a board or ski that feels faster, smoother, and more consistent on snow.

What’s Done to Your Base

  • Professional iron-applied hot wax

  • Full scrape of excess wax

  • Base brushing and texturing

  • Final inspection before pickup

This service focuses purely on glide performance and base conditioning.

"Great service from Pat! I got my skis waxed and went back for a helmet fitting. He showed me some options and ensured the helmet fit with my existing goggles. Highly recommend"

Best technical assistance in fitting my new boots then making sure I had updated bindings so I can ski safely. I love the customer service in helping me make the right choice for my new Dynastar skis and bindings. The fact that they could be ready the next day along with the waxing and tuning of my families skis is a great way, to me, the customer, that I am important to them. Thank you! Mountain Cultures is the best shop with friendly, knowledge staff. Support local stores is my motto where ever I am.

FAQ

What is a hot wax & scrape service?

A hot wax & scrape service involves melting wax into the base of your skis or snowboard using an iron, allowing it to absorb, then scraping and brushing the base to restore smooth glide. It is the correct and most effective way to apply wax for lasting performance.

How often should I wax my snowboard?

Most riders benefit from waxing every 4 to 6 riding days, depending on snow conditions. Cold, dry Alberta snow can dry out bases faster, so frequent riders may need waxing more often.

Will this service make my snowboard faster?

Yes. Fresh wax reduces friction between your base and the snow, improving glide and maintaining speed through flats and transitions. While it does not repair structural damage, it significantly improves overall ride feel.

Can I wax my snowboard myself at home?

Yes, but proper waxing requires the right iron, temperature control, scraping technique, and brushing tools. A professional hot wax scrape ensures even application and proper finishing for optimal performance.  Stop by the shop for all your at home tuning needs and expert advice.

How long does a hot wax & scrape take?

Turnaround times may vary depending on shop volume, but the waxing process itself is straightforward. For current timing, our team can provide details when you drop off your skis or snowboard.
