Ski – Major Tune Up. Bring your skis back to life.

When your bases are dry, edges feel inconsistent, or you’re seeing scratches and core shots from a long season in the Rockies, it’s time for more than a quick wax. Our Ski – Major Tune Up is a full restoration service designed to reset performance, flatten the ski to remove any warpage and extend the life of your equipment.

A Full Reset for Your Skis

The Ski Major Tune Up is our most comprehensive ski service. Built for skiers who demand reliable edge hold, smooth glide, and structurally sound bases, this tune restores your skis from the ground up.

Priced at $70.00, this service includes base repair, grinding, precision edge sharpening, and a professional hot wax finish.

When Your Skis Need More Than a Basic Tune

This service is ideal for:

  • Skiers with visible base damage or deep scratches

  • Anyone who has hit early-season rocks or late-season debris

  • Riders preparing for a mountain trip or competitive event

  • Skiers whose gear feels slow, uneven, or unpredictable

  • Athletes who expect consistent edge bite on firm snow

If a basic ski tune up isn’t enough anymore, and your skis need structural attention plus performance refinement, the Major Tune Up is the right move.

Step 2 – Base & Edge Restoration

We start by addressing structural issues:

  • Base repair for damaged areas

  • Petex work to fill scratches and defects

  • Base grind & stone grind to restore flatness and structure

This process removes inconsistencies, repairs wear, and rebuilds the foundation of your ski. A proper grind restores optimal base structure so your skis glide efficiently in varied snow conditions.

Edges are then sharpened to restore clean, confident bite.

Step 3 – Performance Finish

We finish with a professional hot wax (iron applied, brushed and textured) to deeply condition the base and enhance glide.  Detuned edges on tip and tail for a smooth consistent turn.

This final step seals the work, protects the ski, and ensures your first run back feels fast, smooth, and predictable.

Customer Reviews

Amazing local small business! Took care of my daughter’s skis that were in rough shape. It was done quickly and the tech did a great job!

Tons of help and peace of mind working with a group of experts. As much as I had read forums and watched videos talking to pros makes all the differences. I expressed my issues with my current skis and they provided a wealth of knowledge and empathy helping me get fitted with exactly what I need to enjoy the sport I love.

Best technical assistance in fitting my new boots then making sure I had updated bindings so I can ski safely. I love the customer service in helping me make the right choice for my new Dynastar skis and bindings. The fact that they could be ready the next day along with the waxing and tuning of my families skis is a great way, to me, the customer, that I am important to them. Thank you! Mountain Cultures is the best shop with friendly, knowledge staff. Support local stores is my motto where ever I am.

FAQ

What is included in a ski major tune-up?

Our major tune includes base repair, Petex filling for scratches, base grind, stone grind, edge sharpening, and a hot wax finish (iron applied, brushed & textured). It’s a full performance reset — not just a quick refresh.

How is a major tune-up different from a minor tune-up?

A minor ski tune focuses on sharpening, waxing, and grinding to restore base flatness and structure.

A major tune-up goes deeper by repairing base damage by applying Petex.

Who should get a major tune-up, and when is it recommended?

It’s recommended for skiers with visible base damage, deep scratches, or inconsistent performance, especially after early-season rock hits, heavy use, or before a big trip.

How often should skis receive a major tune-up?

Most skiers benefit from one major tune per season. Frequent or aggressive skiers may need one mid-season and another at season’s end.

Does a major tune-up remove deep scratches or core shots?

Most scratches and base damage can be repaired with Petex. Severe core shots may require additional work, which we’ll assess and communicate before proceeding.
